John 7:37-39 Jesus stood up and said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty may come to me and drink. If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.” Jesus was talking about the Spirit. The Spirit had not yet been given to people, because Jesus had not yet been raised to glory. One of the great paradoxes of life is that the more we try to make ourselves happy, the more miserable we become. But I suspect that that’s exactly what God always intended.

So, how do you want to spend the rest of your life? Going round and round on the same old merry-go-round, or getting out there and living the life God’s given you, to the absolute full?

You’d think the answer to that would be pretty much a no-brainer. And yet, most people still live their lives on the merry-go-round of selfishness, going up and down and round and round … but really, headed nowhere.

We live life a bit like the Dead Sea, we want all the blessings to flow inwards towards us, but when you live like that, you end up dead inside. How do you change that?

John 7:37-39 Jesus stood up and said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty may come to me and drink. If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.” Jesus was talking about the Spirit. The Spirit had not yet been given to people, because Jesus had not yet been raised to glory. But later, those who believed in Jesus would receive the Spirit.

The answer is to change the direction of the flow. Instead of wanting everything flow inward, let the blessings of God, the Spirit of God flow outward through you. All those blessings God gives you, the joy the peace, the hope, the love … give them away. And all of a sudden, instead of a dead life, this living water flows out of you and brings life to those around you.

Abundant life. That was always God’s plan.
