Yesterday we read about how small, how inadequate, how empty we feel sometimes when we get before God. You know that feeling – God is so great, so vast, so loving, but you just don’t have anything left to give today?

We’ve all been there – and that sense of inadequacy, of not even being able to lift your head to worship God, is a disheartening thing. We feel as though we’re failing Him.

This vast God, the Creator of the Universe, the One who offered Jesus up as a sacrifice for our sin … and we have nothing left to give? Sad, isn’t it? And yet God knows all about our frailties. He knows how life can tear away at your soul. He knows how tough things can be – physically, emotionally and spiritually.

And that, my friend, is precisely why the Creator of the universe, the One who holds it all together, came down to be one of us.

John 1:14 The Word became a man and lived among us. We saw his divine greatness—the greatness that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace and truth.

From the very beginning with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, God yearned to be with His people; to walk with Adam in the cool of the morning. And yes, in the Old Testament we see how God dwelt in the Tabernacle – the Tent of the Meeting in the wilderness with Israel – and later in the Temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem.

But here, here in Christ, we see Him drawing close to us: The Word, the logos … Jesus, through whom all things were created, became a man to live – literally to “tabernacle” – among us.

Jesus is God drawing close to us. Close to you, close to me.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
