John 4:3-8 So he left Judea and went back to Galilee. On the way to Galilee, he had to go through the country of Samaria. In Samaria Jesus came to the town called Sychar, which is near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there. Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down beside the well. It was about noon. A Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” This happened while his followers were in town buying some food.

There are times in life when ordinary, everyday occurrences turn out to be divine appointments. And if we have our eyes and ears open, those divine appointments happen way more often than if we don’t.

Not surprisingly, Jesus encountered more than His fair share of them:

John 4:3-8 So he left Judea and went back to Galilee. On the way to Galilee, he had to go through the country of Samaria. In Samaria Jesus came to the town called Sychar, which is near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there. Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down beside the well. It was about noon. A Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” This happened while his followers were in town buying some food.

Jesus had to go on a trip. It took Him through Samaria. The Jews and the Samarians did not get on. And, as circumstances would have it, Jesus finds Himself alone at a well, with a Samaritan woman. He was tired, He was hungry, but He knew in His Spirit that this was a divine appointment. We’ll talk more about what happened, over the next couple of days. But for now, the point is, that He saw the opportunity. As one commentator puts it …

The ministering heart has an awareness of the sovereign ordering of life. It is indeed a sobering thing to realise that we never talk to a mere mortal. Never! Everyone we meet will live eternally, either as a glorious being or as a dreadfully lost soul. The ministering heart senses this and treats all encounters accordingly.

Have your eyes and ears open. Don’t miss those divine appointments.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

I love to read your readings every day. It’s quite refreshing and brings the “news”/gospel to start my day off right, with Jesus, Our Lord. Thank you very much.

I think that it is really important to be open to see divine appointments in our life!
In my daily version of the Prayer of Jabez, a part of it is that ‘I may see all that God wants to do in me and through me today, and that I shall not miss out of any of it, and that I may be at the right place at the right time’. (The last part is from Derek Prince).
