The truth be known, no matter how strong a person you may be, there are times when we all feel powerless – powerless to confront and to deal with the things in our lives that, well … need dealing with.

I’m sure you too have had the sense that you just don’t have what it takes to face this challenge or overcome that hurdle, be it something out there somewhere, or something within your thoughts or emotions.

And so, if you’re smart, you’ll pray and pray and pray and (I know, you’ve been there) still nothing. So, now what? Well, let me answer that question with another. When you pray, how do you pray? I mean, when you approach the throne of grace, what are you believing for?

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. (NRSV)

That verse comes in the midst of a discussion about praying for healing. But the two things I want you to notice are firstly, that bit about confessing your sin – if it involves someone else, dealing with that sin in the context of that relationship. Why? Because sin has a terrible habit of blocking God’s answers to our prayers.

And the second is the fact that when we come before God, forgiven, clean, pure, “righteous” because of our faith in Jesus, then our prayer is what? It’s powerful and effective!

Do you believe that? You should. It’s true.

Look, God won’t always answer our prayers when and how we expected, but when you live a life full of prayer, you will live a life full of power.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
