Proverbs 31:28,29,31 Her children say good things about her. Her husband brags about her and says, “There are many good women, but you are the best.” … Give her the reward she deserves. Praise her in public for what she has done.

Most of us take our mothers for granted. They’ve always been in our lives and whether or not they are still alive today, I don’t think that any of us really give enough thought to what they went through to make us who we are.

Around this time last year, our daughter and her husband brought our first grandchild into the world. Her name’s Olivia. Now, just quietly, kids aren’t really my thing, so I wondered how I’d react.

All my friends who were already grandfathers told me that it would be the most amazing experience, but would it? And yet the moment I laid eyes on her I was completely besotted. Little Olivia opened something in my heart that I didn’t even know was there.

And yet, I’m only a father and grandfather. With all my heart, I believe that motherhood is a much, much higher calling. There’s a special bond between the mother who carries her child for nine months and then delivers him or her into the world.

Just a few days after Olivia was born, my daughter Melissa said to my wife, Jacqui, “I love her so much!” To which Jacqui responded, “And now you finally know the love that a mother has for her child.”

Motherhood is such a tough gig – from beginning to end. Mothers are so often under-appreciated, under-valued, under-estimated. So for the rest of us – for those of us who are husbands, sons, daughters – here’s a word of wisdom:

Proverbs 31:28,29,31 Her children say good things about her. Her husband brags about her and says, “There are many good women, but you are the best.” … Give her the reward she deserves. Praise her in public for what she has done.

How can you live that wisdom out towards your mother? How can you let her know that she’s absolutely priceless?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
