Ephesians 1:17-22 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know …what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come.

Many’s the time that I’ve felt powerless … powerless to do all that God’s called me to do. Powerless to overcome the sin in my life. And I used to go to God and ask Him for more power … until one day, I realised that that was absolutely the wrong way to go about things.

Too many people who say they believe in Jesus – in fact way too many – are living lives that fall so far short of the life that He promised. When Jesus promised power, they instead end up living a powerless life.

All too often I hear Christians praying for power, rather than with power. They think they somehow need to drag the power out of a miserly, unwilling God, when all along God’s promise to us about His power in our lives is plain and simple.

The Apostle Paul puts it this way:

Ephesians 1:17-22 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know …what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. (NRSV)

Do you get it? God has already given you all the resurrection power you’ll ever need – the very same power that raised Jesus from the dead, so that you can live your new life in His resurrection power. It’s time to stop praying for power and start praying with power

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
