Isaiah 59:1,2 Look, the LORD’s power is enough to save you. He can hear you when you ask him for help. It is your sins that separate you from your God. He turns away from you when he sees them.

There are times when God feels a million miles away. And that’s rather an unsettling feeling. Even if you don’t love God, if you’re not there yet… still, you know something’s missing.

Perhaps today you’re wanting me to talk about God’s blessing, the great future He has planned for you, the good things He wants to drop into your life. And whilst all of those things are true, today isn’t one of those messages.

Because the root cause of that separation from God is that we’ve decided to go our own way. Sure, His Word says that this is wrong and that isn’t God-honouring … but that was thousands of years ago. Things have changed. I know better. I’ll strike that out of my Bible and go my own way.

So, little by little, things start going awry and before you know it, life dumps a huge mess on your head and God seems to be a million miles away. Here’s what’s going on:

Isaiah 59:1,2 Look, the LORD’s power is enough to save you. He can hear you when you ask him for help. It is your sins that separate you from your God. He turns away from you when he sees them.

Bottom line: God doesn’t bless what His Word forbids.

Because He loves you, He’ll never condone, bless or ignore your sin. But through Jesus He’ll forgive you, if only you’ll turn away from that sin and back to Him. And in an instant, He’s closer than the deepest secret of your heart, because …

The LORD’s power is enough to save you. He can hear you when you ask him for help

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
